Meet the Team

Emma Tyrrell
Business Owner, Practice Manager and Speech Pathologist
Emma  has been working as a speech pathologist within Bendigo since 1997. For 11 years, she practiced as a Speech Pathologist at Bendigo Health, where she held the Deputy Chief position for a number of years. Since 2008, Emma has worked in private practice, with a drive to make a positive difference in the lives of people with a communication difficulty.  Emma manages a clinical caseload and provides support to her team of speech pathologists and administration staff. Emma also works with her colleague, Tamara, in our ADOS (Autism Assessment) Clinic.
Emma is a compassionate and approachable clinician and colleague, who is a strong advocate for all clients at Talk It Up to ensure they receive the best possible supports to meet their needs. She works collaboratively with individuals, families and team members to achieve the best possible outcomes. Emma communicates openly with kindness, warmth, humour and empathy. As an employer, Emma ensures that her staff prioritise their family, wellbeing and happiness. She encourages her team to continually learn new skills and put these into practice. Emma loves the neurodiversity movement, where we embrace differences in the way our brains work and where we teach through connection and neuro-affirming practice.

Rochelle Cassar
Speech Pathologist
Rochelle is kind, gentle and thoughtful. Her vast experience of 7 years as an Education Support worker in a local primary school has placed her in excellent stead for her role as a speech pathologist. Rochelle is a mother of three teenagers and she works hard to achieve the work/life balance that her family needs. She is patient and carefully considers all options before deciding on a treatment approach for her clients. Rochelle is extremely creative and loves to make the perfect resources that will motivate the families that she works with. She loves                                                                                      funky shoes, all plants and cups of tea.

Bec Swayn

Bec is a qualified secondary school teacher and has spent two years teaching in Tasmania, before moving back to Victoria to pursue her speech pathology career. Throughout her teaching career, Bec worked in a number of supervisory and management roles. She is an engaging, enthusiastic and motivated team member, who loves to be creative and artistic. Bec thrives in a busy, active environment and she has knowledge of trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practices. Bec finds it easy to build rapport and trust with the families that she supports. She loves spending time with her dog.

Kirstyn Smith
Office Manager
Kirstyn possesses strengths in organisation, attention to detail and diligence. She is a driven and efficient team member who manages our clinic, accounts, waiting list, and the administration of the business. Kirstyn likes to be called 'K' and is the friendly person who answers your phone calls and emails. She gives every client a warm welcome as they walk into the clinic, and ensures our clients feel supported throughout their time with us. K goes out of her way to make sure clinicians have                                                                                  everything they need and she strives to make everyone's day just that little bit                                                                                        easier. K has an extremely fun sense of humour and is skilled at putting smiles on                                                                                   peoples' faces! She is obsessed with plants, stationary and is always looking for                                                                                       ways to make the business run more efficiently.

All of our clinical staff are Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists and are members of our professional association, Speech Pathology Australia. They hold current Police Checks, Working With Children Checks, and Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme Checks.

Acknowledgement of Country

We respectfully acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet, work, and learn in Bendigo. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all First Nations Peoples.

We recognise that Country is not just a place, but a living cultural and storytelling landscape—nurtured over millennia through spoken word, song, and story. As a speech pathology practice committed to supporting communication and storytelling for all, we are mindful and grateful to honour the oldest storytellers of this land, and to continue learning from their enduring connection to place, language, and expression.
